How do you get document links in a document library to have user-created properties? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am building a document library. I have added a couple custom fields to the standard view.  These fields can be edited with the properties dialog for the document.  Some of the documents to be entered in this library reside in an Oracle content DB.  For those entries, I add a Link to the document.  Unexpectedly, the view fields I added to the Library do not appear on the properties sheet for these Link-type documents.  Is there a way for the Links to have the same property fields as the standard document types??

  • I found out why my Link-document did not have my user-created properties:  I enabled the Link-document as a content type to the Library AFTER I had added the property column to the Library default view.  Only when a column is newly created is the "Add to All Content Types" check-box available.  After I added the Link-document as a content type in the Library,  new columns that were added to the default view DID appear as properties of Link-documents.  LESSON: add all possible content types to a Library before adding columns to a view.
