VS2013 debugger fails to break on linked files

    Question

  • Hi,

    I have a project where I've added a recursive link to a folder outside the project:

        <Content Include="..\..\Common\**\*.*">
          <Link>common\%(RecursiveDir)%(FileName)%(Extension)</Link>
          <CopyToOutputDirectory>PreserveNewest</CopyToOutputDirectory>
        </Content>

    This works well and if I run the project it works well.

    My problem is when one of the files inside that linked folder causes an exception, the VS 2013 debugger doesn't break on the exception for some reason. I have it configured to break on all JavaScript exceptions (Debug -> Exceptions -> JavaScript Runtime Exceptions, both Thrown and User-unhandled are checked.)

    I thought VS didn't have debug information about these files but it must have because when I manually add a breakpoint in one of the files the debugger actually breaks, it just doesn't break when an exception occurs.

    Can you please tell me what I'm missing to enable this behaviour?

    Thank you.

  • Do any of the other exception types cause it to break?

    NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined objects and unknown namespaces.

  • Not sure if I understood your question correctly.

    If you mean the other exceptions in the "Exceptions" window then the answer is no, I have all the other types checked (c++ exceptions, common language runtime exceptions, etc.) and it doesn't cause the code to break.

  • Can you provide a sample application for debugging? Upload to Onedrive and share it here.
