Domain User E-Mail Not Updating

Question
-
We have SharePoint Server 2010 installed and running. We tie the Contributor role for the site to an AD group. This is how we control security. When we change the e-mail address of a user in AD, SharePoint does not show the updated e-mail from AD for the user. How do we get this data to synchronize with AD?

Without the User Profile Sync Service running, the information is never updated; it is only pulled from AD when the user is created. Do you have a UPA with the User Profile Sync Service running?
