MOSS, localized sharepoint? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi! I have MOSS 2007, and I'd like to make it localizable.

Some toolbox control with "English"/"other language", like on many ASP.NET sites. As I understand, in ASP.NET it is possible via master pages technology.

As I understand, I can use language packs and "Variations" in MOSS menu:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/about-source-variations-HA010121299.aspx?CTT=3

But what will I get in result - will I have two different pages, where I can put content in different languages, or it will be only system messages localized(by example "Site actions", "Create", etc.)?

Do You have some links where I can see localized sharepoint sites in the web?

    Best regards.

  • Hi Rockie,

Language packs enable site owners and site collection administrators to create SharePoint sites and site collections in multiple languages without requiring separate installations of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, when installing language packs, it contains language-specific site templates, on front-end web servers, so it will show the ‘system message’ as you said, for more information, please refer to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262108(office.12).aspx

The variations feature in SharePoint makes the same content available to specific audiences across different sites by copying content from the source variation site to each target variation site. If necessary, the content can then be customized in the target variation site, for example, content in a target variation site can be localized before it is published, you can pay more attention on the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262404(office.12).aspx

    Thanks,
    Qiao
