I am .Net Windows application developer trying to transition to ASP.Net.  I'm working out of "Microsoft® ASP.NET 4 Step by Step" (Microsoft Press) and it tells me to "Right-click the project node in Solution Explorer and click Create Package", but I see no such option in the right-click menu, nor do I see it under the Project menu.  How can I create a package?

    Hi tharpa,

Based on your reply, I think your are using the VS2012, I would like to know what the detail version of your vs is. (My vs is vs2010 update1)

On the other hand, is there Build Deployment package item in the context menu when you right click your project in the VS. If it has, you can create pagkage by click Build Deployment package. (By default the location is in obj\Debug\Package\)

If it hasn't, is there Web Deploy Package item is the publish wizard. (Right click your project in the vs=>click publish=>Change Publish method in the Dropdownlist)

If you still have the issue:

First, I suggest that you can create a new simple project and try again.

Secondly, please try to repair your vs and try again.

BTW: Could you share your project in the skydrive

    Thanks

    Hi tharpa,

    Thanks for your post!

According to your description, I think you want to publish your web project. In vs2012, you can right click your project and choose publish. In the publish wizard, you can select web deploy package. For more information, please refer to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd465323.aspx (For other version, please change the .Net framework version in that page)

    Thanks

    Best Regards

Thank you, Starain.  However, when I go to those instructions on your link, the screen capture shows an option for "Create deployment package as a zip file."  under Web Deployment Package Settings.  However, although I have the heading "Web Deployment Package Settings", there are no options in that section at all.

OK, problem solved, I think.  In the publish wizard, if I create a Publish profile, the Next button becomes visible.  (This is different than most wizards, where the next button is merely disabled if all required data isn't selected.)  On the next screen, I have the option for Web Deploy Package.

    Thanks for your help.
