Support for HTTP Chunked Transfer Encoding in WP7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Can anyone please tell me to what degree is the chunked transfer encoding feature for server responses ("Transfer-Encoding: chunked") supported by HttpWebRequest in Windows Phone 7.1 ?
According to this explanation (http://www.jmarshall.com/easy/http/#http1.1c2), i'd expect the "BeginGetResponse" callback to fire multiple times, in series, once for each received chunk. Is this a correct assumption ? Also, does the "chunked" transfer encoding imply any compression applied to the response ? Is this supported by WP7 ? I only recently came across this HTTP technique so i'm not that familiar with it and how it's supposed to be implemented.

    Thanks in advance,

  • Hi,
Windows Phone 7.1 does not support the HttpWebRequest.SendChunked property.  This behavior is apparently inherited from Silverlight.

If your goal is to transfer files, Background File Transfer might be helpful.

  • Thanks for your response.

I was actually worried about chunked server responses, not chunked requests sent from the client. After some tests, it seems chunked server responses are supported, however they are not automatically inflated if they're sent back gzip compressed.
