Hi: Is there any way to disable password expiration on server 2008? When logged in as the domain administrator on a DC, under local security policy / password policy, maximum password age is set to 42 and grayed out.

I loaded a w2k8 standard and dcpromo'd it.  It's under Group Policy Management. Then computer configuration > polices > windows settings > security settings > account policies > password policy.  Hope that helps.

Try looking at the Default Domain Policy vs. the local security policy.

Hi Steve: any insights on how to do that? I googled and only could find a single pdf from Microsoft that said it could be done, but didn't say how. I have local security policy in administrative tools, but I don't see where the domain security is controlled?

Group Policy Management console I believe is what it's called.  I don't have a w2k8 DC in front of me.

Thanks....I stared at that colorful hierarchical display several times before it occurred to me to right-click and select "edit" and define a new GPO...an "edit" button would have been helpful <g>.

You could always right click the user and select properties and check Password Never Expires.

    Hi,

How can we set the password not to expire in a local windows 2008 server, where there is no Active Directory Domain. The machine is not in Active Directory Domain.

    Thanks.

You would set a user password nto to expire in Windows 2008, with no AD in the Server Manager. Open the Server Manager and go to "Configuration > Local Users and Groups". Right click the user and check 'password never expires'.
