Where are custom fields stored? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm investigating possibility to create custom e-mail form with some additional fields that user will need to fill before sending.
I've managed to create such form and display custom fields on read pane of received e-mail  on the same machine in Outlook.

Then I sen't this e-mail to gmail to verify if this custom data is there but I don't see it.

Where are those custom fields stored? Maybe it works in Outlook/Exchange only?

  • Yes, all custom properties are stored as named MAPI properties - you can see them in OutlookSpy if you click the IMessage button. When the message is sent, it is converted to MIME, and all custom MAPI properties are lost.

There is one exception - if your named properties are in the PS_INTERNET_HEADERS namespace, they will be added as MIME headers to the outgoing message.
