client access agent for scanning messages being fetched by the user from his mailbox in a specific device RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is there an option to develop something like a client access agent that is able to scan any mail that is being fetched by the user in any way (owa, activesync, outlook)?

I'd like to scan messages that already exist in the user mailbox when they are being fetched by the user to any device.

    Thanks,

    Lior

  • There are no events or interfaces you can use for this type of thing what are you trying to achieve by doing this?. If its for auditing purpose you may want to look at mailbox auditing which can do some of this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff459237.aspx. Other things you can do is using a EWS Notification or Mapi advise Sink to detect which an item is marked as read (this wont supply the device that accessed it). If you want to capture when something particular is accessed on a Mobile device, OWA or Outlook (Outlook Anywhere) then you could do it at the protocol level eg all these clients use https to access exchange so if you where able to get to the Https packets at the IIS level or before and look at the raw requests that might work but it would be a very complex solution.

You might also want to look at a tool like Exmon which is more lower level of looking at mailbox access http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=9a49c22e-e0c7-4b7c-acef-729d48af7bc9&displaylang=en

    Cheers

May be using the Mailbox audit ?
