Does Windows 8 have integrated Wmdrm-ndr support?

    Question

  • My app needs to playback video content from a Wmdrm-ndt device. I suppose the app will need a client side (SINK) of the same content protection protocol. Does Windows 8 has Wmdrm-ndr support? or may be it requires a separate licensing?

  • Hello,

Windows 8 store apps do not support WMRM for network devices out of the box. You would need to license the WMRM for network devices porting kit and create your own custom source. That said PlayReady support is built into Windows 8 store apps as well as support for DLNA. WMRM for network devices is no longer being actively developed and it is recommended that you transition from this legacy technology.

    I hope this helps,

  • There is PlayReady SDK posted here:

Can this SDK be used to playback WMDRM-ND content?

  • PlayReady can play WMDRM protected content but you must deliver an XMR license and can't use the standard XML license that is usually delivered from a WMDRM license server.
