server min & max memory RRS feed

  • Question

  • what is the best way to work out what values to set the min & max memory to?
I know by default SQL tries to take everything. I have set my current Sql Server to min 2000(MB) and Max (2000MB), however my Physical memory is up to 98% use.

  • Primarily, Have you checked if your queries are causing that memory congession? It is adviced to do the basic analysis from the application perspective before touching hardware and other configurations.

  • Its hard to suggest something without knowing  your server configuration.. How much memory does the server have? Is it 64 bit or 32 ? More over is it Standard Edition or Enterpise?
