I think my app is falling asleep? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have noticed if I leave my app for a while then come back to it, try to click something, it minimizes itself.

Does anyone know what this relates to?

    Thanks!

  • There is no concept of "minimize" for a Windows Store app. Are you developing a Windows Store app or a traditional desktop app that has the minimize, maximize and the close button?

  • Windows Store App.

I didn't know what else to call it but minimize. It goes into the side tray and shows the desktop, so a bit like minimize. If I go to it in the tray selection side swipe screen and click it, it comes back on.

So the app closes itself, but it just doesn't close fully. It shows the logo but when clicked, re-launches the app just fine.

I guess it is crashing or something, I have no idea.

It only does it once deployed, is there anyway I can monitor for errors out of VS debug mode?

  • If you're not using your app for some time it gets suspended. When the user switchs back to it, it gets resumed. My guess is that you're app ends in a invalid state when it gets resumed. Maybe you don't fully restore the app state where the user left the app.

You can find more information on the application app lifecycle at:

    Or some sample code at:
