Can we customize the ribbon?

    Question

  • I installed the Windows 8 build and it looks like I don't have much control over the ribbons's layout. Is there any way to make it look like this ??

  • Hi Siddhartha,

With Windows 8 BUILD, you can only minimize the ribbon or change the placement of the Quick Access Tool bar.

  • Based on https://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/08/29/improvements-in-windows-explorer.aspx, customization of the Ribbon will not be allowed. You can only customize the Quick Access Toolbar.

  • I thought so.......but the quick access toolbar is really ugly and difficult to reach..............too cluttered up!!

  • You can get it closer by (i) collapsing the Ribbon bar and/or (ii) moving it under the Ribbon. Consult the arrow next to the Quick Access Toolbar.

  • Incidentally, the "Send to desktop" functionality is available through the "Copy to" button.  You can make sure Desktop (or any other folder) always shows up on that menu by pinning it in your jump list.

  • Please add this possibility in the Beta/RC/RTM.
