Evaluate method RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    Just out of curiosity. Given:

    • EVALUATE("ME") gives ERROR 2029, ok fine
    • EVALUATE("07") gives 7, ok fine
    • EVALUATE("M07") gives an empty string, ???

Can someone explain why "M07" returns an empty string?

  • M07 is interpreted as cell M7. Since M7 is empty in the active sheet, Evaluate("M07") returns a blank. If you enter a value in M7, you'll see that returned.

  • Hans,

Ah, of course, we are using a structured code like "MDA0718001" which should be read as MD|a0718|001:

    1. Management domain
    2. Reference for this domain, in fact "a", a sequence number and the year
    3. The sequence number of the domain

Never thought that this could be a cell reference. Thanks.

    Kind regards,

    JP
