AMR audio format support in Windows Mobile RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Everyone

I am doing a feasibility study regarding porting a s60 application to Windows Mobile. The amr audio format is used for recordings on the s60 platform and the Windows mobile port will need to to be able to record and playback the format.

I have been searching this forums and the Internet about amr audio support in Windows Mobile. Some post in the smart device forum suggest that amr audio isn't supported. If that is in fact so, can some please provide a link to some Microsoft documentation regarding this.

The odd thing, I have a HTC Touch Diamond and Samsung i200 and both devices did play back the amr sound recording made with my Nokia. On closer inspection I found amr_recorder.dll and amr_writer.dll in the Windows directory of the HTC.

So, I would really like to know where support officially stands regarding the amr audio format. Was the dll's installed by the manufacturers or by Windows Mobile 6.1?

    Best Regards
    Louis
