Upgrade Windows 2008 SP2 domain controller to 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can't seem to find a straight answer.   We have a domain controller, Windows 2008 SP2 with all five FSMO roles, DHCP, DNS (AD-INT), and want to upgrade the DC to R2.   The Domain controller is 64 bit as is the W2008 SP2 install.   From what we've been told we simply have to put in the W2008 R2 DVD and select upgrade and that would do it.

Is that correct that we can upgrade the domain controller without moving FSMO, Services, etc to another DC?  In otherwords a complete in place upgrade.

    Thanks!
