Dynamic Number of Documents to be in Final Merged Document RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've read this: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brian_jones/archive/2008/12/08/the-easy-way-to-assemble-multiple-word-documents.aspx - about merging multiple word docx's into a single word document. In that case, the authors seem to have known beforehand how many sections they would have.

I have a project under development where there will be 2 documents created per some database query result, but the number of results in the query will vary quite a bit. Does anyone have any thoughts about creating this merged document target with a dynamic number of pages in the final product? I'm guessing I would need to programmaitcally insert the Content Controls into the final merged document, 2 per db result...

    Basics: using Office/Word 2007, VS2008, C#, ASP.NET.

Thanks for your time and any insight.

  • Thanks, Mike.

I think the direction I needed to be pushed towards was to install Power Tools for OOXML, and to use the DocumentBuilder API.

That took an afternoon but the project has been going well since.

    Thanks, David
