Decode WEP payloads? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm new to network monitoring and I'm trying to capture wireless traffic on my home network. My wireless NIC seems to capture just fine -- I see lots of captured data including payloads but my router (ActionTec from Verizon) is WEP enabled and all the captured payload data is encrypted. I know the WEP key (obviously). Is there a way to set the WEP key in NM to automatically decrypt payloads? Or is there an external tool I can use after I save the capture? Thanks. -- Joel

  • Unfortunately there's no built in way to decode the traffic using the WEP key.  The only option would be to create a program using the Netmon API to decode the traffic and output a new capture file with the resulting decrypted packets, much like http://nmdecrypt.codeplex.com does.
