Windows Server 2008 R2, FTP Directory listing error 550. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have just implemented IIS FTP on our Windows 2008 r2 server. Following the steps on this link:

    http://www.trainsignal.com/blog/windows-server-2008-ftp-user-authentication

Connecting to the server thru command line works fine.

Doing a DIR command on a file present (dir *MUT*) works fine:

    ftp> dir *mut*
    200 PORT command successful.
125 Data connection already open; Transfer starting.

Doing a DIR command on a file NOT present (dir *ver*) fails:

    ftp> dir *ver*
    200 PORT command successful.
550 The system cannot find the file specified.

This response is quite different on an IIS FTP server on Windows 2003:

    ftp> dir *ver*
    200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.
    226 Transfer complete.

This is very different, did microsoft change this?

Our backoffice software cannot respond correctly on the new 550 reply on non existing files...

    Please help.

    Kind regards,

    Dave
