Survey database design question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm creating a survey database that can contain different types of results as the answers.  For instance,  some questions may have a text entry, others might have a numeric value that represents a number between 1 and 5 (sliding scale), and some may contain boolean values.  Should I create seperate tables for each of the different types of answers?  The reason I'm thinking this is because there will be calculations performed on the numeric value (sliding scale).   Or should I have a table (tblAnswers) with a field that describes the answer type (multiple choice, text, yes/no, sliding scale) and another field that contains the answers?  Eventually a report will be generated that displays summary data of surveys.

    Thanks in advance!
