Can PBI Board items be customized in any way?

    Question

  • We have modified our process template to allow both BUG and PBI to show on the product backlog board. From the defaults, there is no visual clue as to which is which. For example, in the image below you will see two items in the ACTIVE column. One of them is a bug, the other is a PBI.

We would like to distinguish these some how, either by shape, color, or text ( short of remembering to type funny title prefixes ourselves). Is there a mechanism for this?

I mark useful reply as answer.

Just as long as we are clear that it is you that thinks this is an answer. I thought it was useful.

As for myself, I think the answer is "No, You cannot customer PBI board items directly although there is at least one third-party system that provides some service to this end."

You could then go on to shill the next version by adding "You might want to check out the TFS 2013 preview here. It has many enhancements in this area already and may fit your needs".

    That would be an answer.

  • Hi MP,

If you are using TFS 2012 update 2 you can download and install the Web Access Extenstion - Task Board Enhancer. Complete features, instructions and download zip is available at http://pascoal.net/task-board-enhancer/.

Still this gives you only the Name of the work item when you view it in the sprint Board. No good when you view it on the Backlog Board.

But this is a cool feature that will be available with TFS 2013, already available on TFS online service with nice colors to the work items in the Board.

Thanks - still hoping for a programmatic or template solution.
