Using Report Builder 3.0 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have installed Report Builder 3.0 and I have SSRS - SQL Server 2005 also installed.

Now in the report configuration screen the

Report Server Virtual Directory = ReportServer

Report Manager Virtual Directpry = Reports

Now I deploy reports and Report Models using Report Builder 1.0 to http://localhost/reports but I cannot deploy reports using Report Builber 3.0.

    Regards

    Bimal

  • Report Builder 3.0 is designed to work with Reporting Services 2008 R2 and is not backward compatible with any other version.  The Visual Studio-based report designer for SSRS 2008 R2 will allow you to edit and deploy SSRS 2008 reports.

To design and deploy SSRS 2005 reports, you must use the Visual Studio 2005 shell that installs with SQL Server 2005 (called Visual Studio 2005 or Business Intelligence Development Studio [BIDS] 2005).

  • Hello Bimal,

Report Builder 3.0 is for SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services, not for 2005. For 2005 you have to use the Report Builder 1.0

  • If your report server is on the local machine, the default deployment target should be http://localhost/ReportServer.

The Report Manager web application lives in the Report web folder.

  • The default deployment target is http://localhost/ReportServer

When I use Visual studio 2005 (BIDS) I can deploy reports to the target server.

When I run Report Builder V3.0 it trys to connect to http://localhost/ReportServer. and fails with the following error:

    Connection Failed.

Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL "http://localhost/ReportServer". Make sure that the server is running, the URL is correct and you have permission to use the server.

NB I do not have sql server 2008 R2 installed only Sql Server 2005 and Reporting Services (2005)

    Regards

    Bimal
