Change max size of dynamic VHD file? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have some users who for various reasons need to cache some shared mailboxes in Outlook.   I won't go into the reasons why, because I don't really like it either, but that's what I'm stuck with.

One of these shared mailboxes is really big - to the point that by the time Outlook has cached 3 month's worth of the user's own mailbox, another couple of shared mailboxes, plus this huge mailbox, the ODFC VHD file is hitting 30GB and Outlook starts to fall over as it's unexpectedly unable to write to the drive.

I know there is a reg key for setting the default size, but that seems to create a 30GB file (or whatever you set) right from the off, even if you set the 'IsDynamic' reg key too.  If I don't set that key, then the VHD starts off small and grows bigger as required, until it hits that limit.   I really need to just change the upper limit for a dynamic file.   Is that possible?
