Where is the WEP key location in the Registry? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

During device update there is a need in preserving the user's settings on Win CE 6.0 device such as (for instance) WiFi settings including Access Point, pass-phrase and so on.

We don't need to decrypt the WEP key, we're OK with just saving it encrypted temporarily and placing it back...

Does anyone know where that information is stored in the WinCE 6.0 Registry?

    Thanks in advance,

  • If you set the registry key MasterKeysInRegistry, the WEP key is stored somewhere in the registry. I suppose that doing a DIFF on before/after versions of the registry might tell you where. Persisting the registry with MasterKeysInRegistry does persist the WEP keys.

So, the question becomes: why not just persist the registry rather than trying specifically persist the WEP keys? Or alternatively: why not just have an encrypted file that contains the WEP keys you want to use and, on startup, create WiFi connections using those keys?
