Login credentials for Manual Failover(mirroring) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
What is the minimal login credentials for manual failover in sql 2005 with mirroring? According to BOL the database owner can initiate manual failover to the mirror server but when I login as a database owner I can't see "Mirroring" page of the Database Properties dialog box.
    Thanks,
    Igor.

  • Hi , Can you also check whether all permissions in server level / database level are being granted to the user with which you are trying to configure mirroring.

Revoking some of this permissions for an user may not show up all the properties for a database.
    Thanks, Leks

  • Yes  ! you are right database owner can initiate manual failover to the mirror server .  But i am bit confused with your question what do you mean by mirroring page ,do you mean to say that you are not able to see the option mirror ?

Below is the procedure to perform manual failover

From the object explorer in SQL Server Management studio:
    1) Expand Databases and select the database that you would like to failover to mirror.
    2) Right click on the database and select All Tasks and select Mirror from within “All Tasks”.
    3) From the buttons on the right side Click on “Failover” it will than prompt you for a confirmation and once confirmed database mirroring has failed over.

Alternatively you can run run the following T-sql to perform manual failover .
Alter database <DBNAME> set partner failover

  • Strange not able to findout the problem exactly! I need below information to understand the issue .

please let me know is the mirroring setup for the database ?
What is the sql server edition and version ? Note : you need sql server 2005 sp1 or above to setup mirroring else this option will not be available !
Are you able to see the mirroing page for other databases ?
could you please let me know what is the database ID ? "I have checked out a similar post and in that case the issue is with the database ID as the datebase is uisng 3 as dbid where as 1-4 id are allocated to system databases !

  • Are you using full blown up version of SSMS or the basic version . I have seen some issues with basic mode SSMS where you will not be able to see the right click MIRRORING page on a database property.
    Thanks, Leks
