Load test option - "Percentage of New Users" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

I have question about load testing option. This option named "Percentage of New Users" and we can set value of this option in load test, after creation, in "Scenarion"->"Options". How this option influence on the load test result when we set any value in this option and don't set value in this option? And what purpose of this option?

    Thank's.

  • The option affects how the Vuser virtual browser cache is maintained between iterations of Web Tests. If this value is 100% all Vusers starting a Web Test will be starting with an empty browser cache. If this value is 0% the Vusers will maintain the state of the browser cache between iterations of Web Tests. This setting affects the amount of content that is downloaded. If an object sits in a Vuser cache and if the object has not been modified since the last time the Vuser downloaded it, the object will not be downloaded. Therefore, new users will download more content versus returning users with items it their browser cache.

  • Hello,

Thank Matthew's great help, in addition, here are some more detailed information:

Each scenario in a load test has a property named Percentage of New Users. This property affects the way the load test runtime engine simulates the caching that would be performed by a Web browser. The default value for Percentage of New Users is 100. This means that each Web test iteration that is run in a load test is treated like a first time user to the Web site, who does not have any content from the Web site in their browser cache from previous visits. Therefore all requests in the Web test, including all dependent requests such as images, are downloaded. An exception is the case where the same cacheable resource is requested more than one time in a Web test.

If you are load testing a Web site that has a significant number of return users who are likely to have images and other cacheable content cached locally, then using the default value of 100 for Percentage of New Users will generate more download requests than would occur in real-world usage. If you are load testing a Web site that has a significant number of return users, you should estimate the percentage of visits to your Web site that are from first time users of the Web site, and set percentage of new users accordingly.
