CLR Profiler and VSTS LoadTest RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
For performance profilling of ASP.NET and WCF services we are planning on using the CLRProfiller. We are just testing out the profiller, so we started the CLRProfiller on the server machines(64 bit and Windows Server 2008) and started a VSTS LoadTest on the Test Agent. We observed that all the tests in the loadtest are failing, eventhough they are working fine without the profiller.
And also, will starting the Profiller slow down the application?

Are we doing anything wrong, can anyone please tell me?

    Thanks,
    Sailaja

  • I used CLRProfiler for some perf profilling and it was fine.

Yes, it greatly slows down the app (up to 100 times slower, as noted in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms979205.aspx)

  • Don't waste your time with CLRProfiler.  It is only worth what you paid for it.  Lots of good ones out there, shop around.
