databinding RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi anybody,

I'm new to visual studio express 2005. I have learned the data binding metho with a simple table. Everything works as told but when I want to change a record, it will change it in memory but not in the database SQL. I want to creat an application that will let user change any record. Can someone help?

    Thanks.

  • I dont think it is a limitation of VB Express - as you can do databinding to a SQL database.

You need to ensure that when you set up the databinding you have it generate the appropriate Update SQL statement and when you want to update the database you need to call the update method on the tableadapter (I think)

But VB Express definately allows you to do databinding and update the SQL database.

Data Access - How do I in VB Express

    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms184649(VS.80).aspx

shows a walkthrough that includes a form for updating the database.

Also there is another thread that I found which potentially could be part of the problem with the database not reflecting updates.

  • Well, I found some answers already. The VS Express 2005 is limited and will not let The user change the database in SQL simplely. There is a kind of coding to do which is beyong my knowledge. MS is very smart so that people like me get so excited and buy their expensive product. Thanks anyway.
