Is FTP the right solution to this ? RRS feed

Lets say you want to give your client companies access to their files, which are daily backups of  scanned forms.  There could potentially be several thousand individual user accounts.  If we went with FTP, what is the best way to manage folder permissions and this many user accounts  ?

What does "access to their files" mean? What do they need to be able to do with them?

FTP seems like it might be unwieldy since you'll need to create Windows accounts for every user that needs to authenticate.

By "access" , I mean the user should be able to (after authentication) download their files

Actually, ive ruled FTP out because of the need to create so many user accounts.

With the process that generates the images, Im going to hook into it and have it send an email for each image that gets generated, and just attach the image to the message.

Sounds workable.  You could also have a web app to manage clients, users, and files and do this via HTTP.
