Adding extensions under the IQueryForm registry entry in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Vista RRS feed

  • Question

  • My company developed an application that adds an extension to the Active Directory search dialog. These extensions are registered under "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8A23E65E-31C2-11d0-891C-00A024AB2DBB}\Forms".

Installation works fine under 2003/XP, but under Vista/2008 the new search extension is not registered.

According to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953582 only the "TrustedInstaller" has Full Control permissions to this

    registry key in Vista/2008.

My question is now: If I add a manifest to the application and specify a "requestedExecutionLevel" of 'requireAdministrator', will this help, or do I have to take ownership of the REG-Key as described in theKB Article?

Or is there any other method of fixing this?

    Thanks for your help!

  • You have to install the hotfix on the target machine before you install.  Its a bad problem... hopefully SP2 will include this hotfix.
