manually create pinned desktop IE to start screen RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to pin a URL to the start screen but I want to use iexplore.exe -k to use kiosk mode. So pinned program would be iexplore.exe -k url_blah_blah.

I want to make a seemless launch of a Silverlight app from the start screen.

I searched all over the registry and file system and cannot find where start screen pins are stored. There is probably an easy way that I am just not seeing.

  • The only pinned items to the start screen in the Windows Developer Preview are Metro Apps and Desktop Apps.
I did attempt to pin using the iexplore.exe -k command and was not able to pin in the Start menu.

  • I've been working on trying to fig out how to add to the start tile ui. Some items have added themselves such as firefox and chrome but I want to be able to add everything as a tile so I could potentially scroll through programs, pictures, games, etc with the smooth scrolling tile ui.

  • I was able to create a batch file with a command like this:

    "c:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -k http://www.microsoft.com

I put the batch file in C:\Program Files (x86) so it would be found by the app searcher.

From the tile start screen, I can find the app by typing the name on the keyboard. It launches fine from there. But I am not able to pin it.
