install WEC2013 side-by-side with WEC7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everybody,

we have developed some BSPs for WEC7 and want to upgrade now to WEC2013.

Has anyone tried to run a side by side installation of VS2008/WEC7 and VS2012/WEC2013 on one machine?  If so, are there any interesting behaviors that I should be aware of?

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Regards

    Uwe

  • you are not allowed to install WEC7 and WEC2013 in one machine. you have to use separate OS for this.

  • In the genaral, one good solution could be using virtual machines to develop with Windows Embedded Compact (one virtual machine for each version). It is how I work :-)

  • Hi Uwe!

I had once used VS2008/WEC7 and VS2012/WEC2013 on the same physical machine. It works well except sometimes when I open my WEC2013 OS Design, I get an exception message like one shown in below picture.

Although this does not happen for an another OS Design. So I guess the issue may be OS Design dependent. I hope this is one of the "interesting behaviors" you had been looking for!

    Good Luck!

  • Hi,

thank you for exchanging that useful experience. I personally have decided, not to risk a corruption of my dev tools,

and use instaed the suggested way to work with virtal machines.

Thank you all for your anwers.
