SchemaType.Source will ignore TableMappings altogether and

create tables and columns as is in the database?

So if there were already tables and columns in the dataset
that has identical names, would the adapter throw an exception or ignore
it..?

I guess it may be ignored. Please take a look at this document describing this:

What I found happens when source is specified, is that for example, with an XML file, the datatable is added to the xml with the schema coming in, not the mapped schema of the dataset/datatable. So if you where to open the XML like in excel, you would see the last datatable in the farthest columns and lowest rows of the spreadsheet.
