Additional image in Office ribbon RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am currently writing an Excel Add in using C#.

My application uses a Microsoft.Office.Toolse.Ribbon.OfficeRibbon to add a ribbonTab to the Excel Ribbon.

My customer now wants to have a quite big image showing his logo on the very left side of the ribbon tab, so every user can see at first glimps that this special tab is active. He laughed at me when I said this is not possible.

Does anyone have an idea how to add plain images (with no functionality, but filling a whole RibbonGroup) to an office ribbon tab?

Thanks for any feedback on that issue!

  • You are right: what the client envisions is not supported by the Office Ribbon.

Best I can come up with would be a large Button to which no code is assigned, so that clicking it wouldn't cause any action.

Beyond that, it might be possible to achieve something using the Windows API that would position a "thingy" over the left side of the Ribbon. I've seen a discussion or two that hints something of this nature is possible. But I have no idea of what would actually be involved in order to achieve it.
