Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 not working on Windows 8 Developer's preview. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello! I recently installed Windows 8 Developers preview X86 on my Laptop(Acer Aspire 5570Z). I run Flight Simulator 2004 from external Hard disk. when I tried to run it on Windows 8, it started but the plane display section (where the model is displayed in 180 rotation) is black and nothing there. Also when I takes a flight, its all messed up. The panel camera view is visible but nothing other is well. Any help will be appreciated.

  • I guess you are using old version of your graphic driver, or the generic one.

What is your graphic driver and in what version?

Please note that the Windows 8 Developer Preview is not supposed for general or production use. It is strictly for developers to get them early access to new technologies so they can create or update their programs to be ready when Windows 8 will reach the market (most probably) next year.

  • I suggest  you uninstall the Flight Simulator game and then reinstall using Compatiblity mode for Windows 7.

You may be able to install drivers that are designed for other versions of Windows by using the compatibility troubleshooter. You can try this troubleshooter by:

    ·         Enter the Start screen

    ·         Move your mouse to the bottom left of the screen to expand the Charms section

    ·         Select Search

    ·         Type Compatibility

    ·         Click Settings in the right column

    ·         Click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows

Then follow the prompts and direct the troubleshooter to the installer for your computer's driver/drivers
