BizTalk Adapter Pack 2013 CU3 (KB3154950) - Operation failed. Error code is 1642.

    Question

  • <g class="gr_ gr_17 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim gr_inline_cards Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="17" id="17">Hi</g> fellow BizTalkers...

I'm currently trying to install the BizTalk Adapter Pack 2013 CU3 (KB3154950) on one of our BizTalk 2013 servers and keep receiving an error relating to:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on the computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch"

The patch I'm trying to install can be found here: Cumulative update package 3 for BizTalk Adapter Pack 2013

Has anyone else had an issue installing this patch, did you managed to get it to install successfully? I've attached a copy of the error log for anyone who's interested. It fails twice as it tries to install the x32 and x64 updates.

I also noticed that these updates are flagged as cumulative but when viewed through the BizTalk Health monitor it clearly shows some to be missing... is this correct?

    Kind regards,

    Steven.

  • Hi Steven,

According to the information above, it's recommended to manually install it.

Run the downloaded .EXE from your hard drive and follow the instructions to complete the installation.

  • Hi,

i have seen kind of these errors before.

Is there more trailing information inside the log file that you mentioned ?:

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\E-Business Servers Updates\Updates\Uninstall3154950\Setup.log

There could be various reasons for the rollback. The msi might not be able to find certain resources in specific versions.

The Windows installer uses a temp folder structure throughout its installation process to cache files and status. It looks something like this:

    C:\Users\ADMIN\AppData\Local\Temp\...

I would recommend to check the temp folder structure of the msi installer and decide to whip them, log in and start the installation again.

Furthermore, pls. check the folder attribute like, compression or encryption and folder's permission in place.

  • Hi Paul,

The log file in my first post is the complete file! I've also checked the temp location you suggested and the administrator has full right, there is no encryption or compression enabled.

It's a strange fault but I'm surprised that no-one has had this issue.

    Cheers,

    Steven.

  • Hi Angie, I have completed this step as mentioned in my first post... These BizTalk updates don't come down through Windows Update so you have no choice other than to install them manually! Did I miss something? Regards, Steven.
