I know there were a few threads on the question of the future of the Web Pages framework and Webmatrix. The common conclusion seems to have been that Webmatrix will likely be going to be discontinued but Web Pages will live on and continue to be developed in vNext.

Does anyone have any additional information on the furture of Web Pages and the Razor syntax.

Try: http://www.asp.net/vnext/overview/aspnet-vnext/aspnet-5-overview#unify (MVC, WebPages and WebAPI are merged into a single MVC 6 Framework).

Razor syntax is alive and kicking in vNext. It drives the preferred View Engine in MVC 6. The Web Pages framework will be added to vNext in the first major update after vNext RTMs. WebMatrix is a dead project. It is no longer being actively developed.

What else did you want to know?

Guess the best bet would be to use Visual Studio Community version which is free and available from visualstudio.com/free

You can carry on using WebMatrix. You just have to put up with the poor Nuget integration and the fact that it only supports Web Pages 2.
