[UWP] - Xamarin or Native RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Does Xamarin supports UWP development? How do I choose between native UWP dev or Xamarin? I might need to use most of the native phone fetaures like camera, video and picture features for my App.

  • I think latest Xamarin form supports UWP. If you going to use core windows API and feature go for the Native app. If it is just data driven App xamarin is good. It is cross platform development too

  • The only option for xamarin development in a UWP app is xamarin forms 2.

Xamarin forms 2 is currently in preview for UWP apps

  • As of right now Visual Studio 2015 will give you the best support of UWP. If you truly want to use it I would suggest downloading community edition. If you really want to use UWP :)

  • Yes it does. Install VS2015 on Windows 10 and Xamarin.Forms 2.1

  • Hi,

Xamarin does support UWP app development in its recent releases and it's a preferred option if you need to build cross platform applications. If your requirement to build only UWP app that run on Windows 10 devices so use native UWP development to build a new app or porting an existing application with full native features you need.

Both options need Windows 10 and Visual Studio 2015.
