null Inspector.WordEditor RRS feed

  • Question

  • We develop/maintain an Outlook (2007, 2010 & 2013) add-in using VSTO. Our add-in place a button in the Microsoft.Outlook.Mail.Compose ribbon.

    When the button is clicked we:
    1) Get the current Outlook.MailItem: Globals.ThisAddIn.Application.ActiveInspector().CurrentItem;
    2) Get the Outlook.Inspector from the MailItem.
    3) Get the Word.Document from the Inspector: inspector.WordEditor

    The problem is that on some computers WordEditor is null (in both Office 2007 and 2010).

    We believe that the problem is not in our add-in since we had access to one of the affected computers, we installed OutlookSpy, and when we clicked WordEditor it did nothing.

    Moreover we clicked Inspector and WordEditor was null. See below (from and signature removed):

    We tried: disabling every add-in, removing signatures, repairing Office, uninstalling and reinstalling Office, uninstalling just Word, but WordEditor remains null.

    Some customers have Office Standard installed, others Professional Plus, others both Standard and Professional Plus.

    A customer said that our add-in worked after they upgraded Office (sounds as if the installation "fixed" something).

    Any help is appreciated.
