ReportViewer -> System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a web application that uses ReportViewer control to display Server reports. This works fine for reports which doesn't take much time for processing. But, I have started seeing the following error when the report execution time takes more than 4mins.

    Request timed out.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Request timed out.

I tried increasing the stateNetworkTimeOut in the web.config file and also the timeout property in the ReportViewer control. But, I still see the error. Please help.

  • Have you tried setting the executionTimeout setting in the config file to a value greater than 90 (90 seconds is the default in the machine.config).  By default, if it takes the asp.net worker process longer than 90 seconds to build a page, it will abort it.  You may want to consult this kb article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825739.  It says it applies to 1.0 and 1.1, but I bet the same thing will happen for a server running 2.0.  Hope this helps.

  • Thank you. Increasing ExecutionTimeOut has resolved the issue.
