Upgrade SQL Server 2008 SP1 Fail Over Cluster to SQL Server 2008 R2... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

    I have Two Windows Server 2008 SP1 Servers installed in a Fail over Cluster mode. SOL Server 2008 SP1 is running in the Fail Over Cluster in ACTIVE / PASSIVE Mode. Now I need to upgrade the SOL server 2008 SP1 to R2. How do I proceed for that? Please help me to proceed.

    Thanks in Advance.

  • Hi Murali,

    Here are steps:

    1. On the passive node, update SQL Server 2008 SP1 to SQL Server 2008 R2, and reboot the server;
    2. Manually fail over cluster from active to passive node;
    3. On the new passive node (previously active node), update SQL Server 2008 SP1 to SQL Server 2008 R2, and reboot the server.

    For more information, you can refer to How to: Upgrade a SQL Server Failover Cluster Instance (Setup) (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191295.aspx). If you have any issue, please feel free to let me know.
