Not able to connect to Azure Virtual Machines through RDP RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

We are not able to connect to Azure Virtual Machines through RDP. It is throwing an error as "An authentication error has occurred. The function requested is not supported. This could be due to credssp encryption oracle remediation". We are able to connect to them, if we add the key "CredSSP" to Registry editor. But from the documentation, it is stated that this way of connection is not secure. Kindly let us know, what is the solution for this.

  • Could you help us with the article you are referring?

The error ”CredSSP Encryption Oracle Remediation”, you are getting is recent update of windows patch (CredSSP updates for CVE-2018-0886).

Refer the documentation for troubleshooting on CredSSP Updates. Check and let us know if this helps.

Also, suggest you to refer the thread link which discusses about the similar issue.

  • Nirushi has provided the correct information on this issue. The long term fix is to ensure both the VM and your client machine are fully patched. So you can use the mitigation you mentioned to get into the machine. Then make sure to update the VM fully. After that make sure you update you client machine as well. Then you should be able to remove the mitigation you did and it should work.
