permissions on web parts RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am on MOSS 2007 and am the collection administrator building a site for a department where I work.  I have a web part page that contains a CEWP, a LVWP (showing a doc library), and a LVWP (showing a discussion list).  All users of this site need to have permission to contribute to the Library and the Discussion.  I want them to be able to add a document or start a thread right in the web part.  However, I don't want them to be able to modify the these two web parts.  I do need them to be able the CEWP.  Is this possible? The default seems to be that if you have Contribute rights you get to modify web parts.

  • Contribute is a permission level. You need to create your own permission level for this, say "Restricted Contribute".

Go to List Settings page. Advance permissions->Settings->Permission Level->Add a Permission Level->Provide the name as "Restricted Contribute" and choose the Permissions you want from the below check boxes.

  • I did figure out that if I remove Contribute rights from the web part page itself, that users cannot modify the web parts but can still add to the Library and Discsussion within those web parts.  However, I could not find a way to allow them to contribute to the the CEWP.

  • I took at look at that.  Didn't see any way to prohibit the modifying of a web part on a page, though there are some permissions for modifying the web part page itself.  Did I miss something?

  • In "Edit Permission level" page under "Personal permissions" can you uncheck "Add/remove Webparts" and "Update personal webparts" ?
