Test Case/Result of Blocked? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am a newbie to MTM and would like to know under what conditions the test result state of 'Blocked' is used?

We were adding some new Test Cases against existing Bugs today and for some reason the Test Cases were automatically set to a state of 'Blocked' rather than 'Active' when added to the Test Suite.  Not sure why this is happening?

    Any help is much appreaciated!

    Cheers.

  • Blocking a test case is an action that can be performed by the tester to indicate that they are unable to perform the test case, perhaps due to something such as a user story not being implemented yet or a dependency requirement not working. For example, if the test case is to create an account on a Web application, and some other related component prevents the tester from even attempting the action, the tester can indicate that they are blocked.

Note that marking a test case as blocked does it not present it from getting executed. You can still run a test case in blocked state and automated test runs scheduled from tcm.exe will also run any blocked test case in the selected test suite.
