Trials turned off and still available RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I published a non-free app, which had trials disabled. Still I was able to download the "trial", which was the full version of the app. I unpublished the app immediately.

Is this the way it is supposed to work? I don't want trials, I rather make another application submission and exclude all features from the code I don't want to support in the trial.

  • The developers of the impacted apps will be contacted directly by Microsoft and paid the full amount they are owed for apps mistakenly distributed in trial mode. If you have questions in the meantime, please contact mplcomm@microsoft.com.

  • My investigation has shown that not all markets show the trial so many publlishers won't know this is happening, not unles their market has this fault.

This is an on-going problem.  Reports of this go back to the last (the one before the most recent) market place update.  About the only things you can be sure an update will bring, are even more chaos, even more things that don't work, and even more fun watching our stuff get shifted around as if it's all for free.

  • And now that a week has passed, I can see all the apps are free for all.  No telling how much has been given away the last week since there's no record.  Once again, let down BIG TIME!  Come on, this is a crime.

  • I just noticed this same problem, I just downloaded my game for free with trial. Somehow after day 21 it's start to collect trial downloads, even that there is not trial enabled. Yesterday there was more than 40 trial downloads what I could check on my own statistic, do I have to unpublish it, or can you fix it soon?

    My app id is 797d80a0-8c2b-e011-854c-00237de2db9e

Other my applications without trial seems to be work ok.

I don't see the trial option for this particular app. How long ago did you download it?

  • Hi,

    my App id is

    5015ae5c-c523-4793-8e50-0e8bc3f8c9ed

its a paid app with no trials. on 19th i submitted an update with Price reduction and also with trial option but the update is still "IN PROGRESS for Testing".  Update is not yet published to the market but in the past one week i got more than 400 downloads starting from 19th. its 2.5$ app now its gone free with full functionality.  its totally a loss of 1000$ from a new developer perspective...

wats happening in the marketplace, i am totally frustated when i look at the report with so many trials downloaded... :(

Is this a joke?  These are apps wih NO TRIAL!  There are close to 100 markets.  You want US to tell YOU where and when you SCREWED UP?  Listen to me.  FIX THIS!  NOW!  If you need ME to TELL YOU how to do your job, you should not have a job.

  • Hi & fyi

Noticed this same issue with my apps in Marketplace Finland just now. Posted a ticket about it too.

Sure has been issues with the marketplace lately between this issue, and problems submitting apps in the first place... Hopefully you will get your house in order soon.

  • Same problem here, app ID: 2be5f512-23fc-4a88-9342-b73ab3db5e41

No trail offered but downloadable as Trail = Paid... tested at Markeplace Germany...

I saw this 1hour ago and unpublished immediatelly but it will take still 2days until it's gone... lol

Thank you Microsoft, I can't believe how such a epic-fail could happen...

  • Same thing with me. Release game on sept 18, and all the way trial downloads, but game doesn't have it(and now is 27, so much free downloads). I can't unpublish app, because i promote it on some sites, and i don't want link from them to be broken. I'm just loosing almost all the money. My app update now with trial is passing certification process, but it's so late, because for more than 10 days app was given for free, and a lot of people download it. Will Microsoft somehow compensate our lost??

    Thursday, September 27, 2012 6:53 PM
  • @MaxPirat

Microsoft has to compensate our loss. There is no other way.I am very much hopeful that effecyed developers will get compensation.

    Thursday, September 27, 2012 7:24 PM
  • I have the same problem, but I think that if we update the application managing the trial with limitations, the person must pay to have the full version.

It's annoying but not a tragedy

So, we entriust you, and pay you, to, among other things, safeguard our products.  You fail at this, time after time.  The bank has been looted, and now, by some miracle of switches being thrown (and the days-long delays those take) have closed the back door to the goodies.  And that is it?  I am outta here!  Take you crap store and shove it!

(Yes., I know you only work there as a temp, and are the go-between, but  you work for them, and obviously it's not working, again.  It never works.  It's ALL WRONG and this is just another example.)

  • This major issue has caused lot of damage and loss to developers.

How Microsoft is going to compensate the effected developers?

  • Compensation as well as restoring dev confidence in store ecosystem should be the moto here

  • Do we need to contact them with reports or they will analyze each and every app around all the market? This was a great decision but it shouldn't be just a message to convince. Where we can get the status for the above said process? Any updates will be posted in this thread?

  • That's great news!

For some reason i can't reach mplcom@microsoft.com, so i will ask here if you don't mind.

I update my app(1.0.0.1) and add trial mode, app notappeared by the time I wrote this. So my old version(1.0.0.0) with no trial was given for free all time of the bug(sept 19-28). Will Microsoft be able to see it? That true trial will appear just in days, and all trial downloads before was by the bug? I'm kinda afraid about that.

    My app is 1c92075c-f22f-447f-938c-697d3732e89f

    Thank you.
