How to replace acpi.sys with checked build acpi.sys in Windows 8.1? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to do ACPI debugging in Windows 8.1.
When I replace acpi.sys with checked build acpi.sys, the system always restores it in next boot.
I followed the instructions mentioned in WDK document to disable Windows File Protection feature.

Create 'SFCDisable' registry DWORD value in \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
and set the value to 2 (or 1).
Kernel debugger was attached as well.

However, the system still showed auto repair message in next boot.

Is there any step I miss?

  • Did you enable test signing as well? Please verify the chk acpi.sys is embed signed properly

  • Checked acpi.sys came from checked build Windows.
Is it necessary to enable test signing while replacing free acpi.sys with checked acpi.sys for ACPI debug?
I got this issue from Windows 8.1.
I didn't get problem before Windows 8.1 while replacing with checked acpi.sys.
