the target principal name is incorrect RRS feed

  • Question

  •  We've set up two VMs to test AGs. We've created the cluster, installed SQL Server on both nodes and  enabled AlwaysON. We are using default instances with static port 1433 on both nodes.

The problem we have is that while we can connect locally to the instances, we cannot connect to the other instance from either VM - we get the target principal name is incorrect - can't generate sspi context

We should not be doing a double hop - we're just trying to connect using Management Studio. Some things that we have checked:

    • Remote connections are enabled on both instances
    • Both instances are running
    • Firewall is turned off on both VMs
    • TCPIP is enabled

Any ideas as to how to solve this?
