Why only 16 characters at the maximum for Live Id password?

    General discussion

  • Hi there,

wouldn't it be much more secure to have passwords longer than 16 characters?

    1. If the user facilitates password formulas, 16 characters will force the user to twist his formula.

    2. The maximal password length needn't to be unbounded. Nonetheless approx. 50 characters should provide enough security for everyone.

    3. Through the next Windows the live id password can be bruteforced more easily, because of the offline availability.

    Cheers.

  • I wonder why nobody replied. Does everybody but me just take passwords of the minimum length?

Therefore I would appreciate it if someone of Microsoft could tell me what is that led to the decision to limit the number of characters to be only 16?

I request increasing the upper bound noticeably because of the reasons mentioned above.
