Performance of an Oracle-based application RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have Oracle-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) application that facilitates order entry, invoicing, dispatch, stock management, and purchasing. However, it took as much as 30 seconds to perform queries from the remote offices, which were linked via Frame Relay.

Any experiences or ideas shared will be greatly appreciated.

  • Coming across the similar issues, we evaluated the cost of upgrading the WAN links; but ruled it out as it is too expensive.

  • I would say migrate to SQL Server since you already found the forum for that product ;-)

  • I explored MPLS, and QoS as ways to expedite the application traffic. Unfortunately MPLS was too expensive and QoS did not provide additional capacity.

  • We analyzed router-based compression. But compression performance did not work well. After researching the market, currently we are considering Juniper, Cisco and Riverbed.
