Setting up alerts!! Urgent.....

Hi
I have 2005 box and need to set up alerts that will send email with respsetive message. I know that I have to configure database mail that use SMTP. My problem is, we are using Outlook express that use MAPI, so I am not being able to configure database mail. Please help me out to make outlook express works on 2005 box.

Hi,

Just as you described, because Database Mail does not use the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI), Database Mail profiles are not MAPI mail profiles. Database Mail does not use SQL Mail profiles.

As a workaround, you can install a MAPI client, like Outlook.create a MAPI profile for the SQL Server service account, and then reference that profile for SQLMAIL in SQL Server and SQL Server Agent.
